Everything You Need to Know About Buying a Sony A5100 Mirror-less Camera in Nigeria
18:47Lade IbikunleI finally bought myself a Sony A5100 mirror-less camera. It combines all the qualities of your big and bulky DSLR cameras into this cute compact machine plus some extra perks that make me fall in love with it every day. So I put up a question tag asking you guys to send me all you want to know about the Sony A5100 and I'm going to be answering them in this post plus other things I think you will find useful especially if you're thinking of buying this camera or others like it
WHERE I BOUGHT MY CAMERA?
Over 50 people asked me where I got the camera and how much I got it for. So I'm making it the first question I answer. I bought the Camera on Amazon here and yes, it's still in stock. I know the next question 'so how did you ship it down lade', which brings me to my next point.
HOW I SHIPPED THE CAMERA TO NIGERIA
Amazon has this thing where if your order is above $100, you get free shipping anywhere in the world. So yes, I was entitled to free shipping with this order and I could have shipped it directly to Nigeria if I wanted to but mehn, I do not trust Nigerian post to handle my product with care. I was scared by the time the camera got to me, the lens will probably be broken and I might not be able to return it and my money (which I saved up for) will just go to waste.
So what I did was to look for someone who was in the abroad and coming back to Nigeria soon. Thankfully, Bukky of Pagessbybukky was in Atlanta at the time and I reached out to her. May I use this medium to thank Bukky for being so nice and understanding throughout the whole process. God bless her beautiful heart. The initial plan was for me to send the money to her, while she goes to the store to buy the camera for me but mehn, sending money to the obodobs is such a struggle!
What I finally did was to order the camera here in Nigeria through Amazon, pay with my Nigerian Debit card (didn't know this was possible before), and put Bukky's address in Atlanta as the shipping address. Fam my Camera was delivered in two days (free shipping) and Bukky brought it for me.
As I said earlier, you can ship yours to Nigeria directly with free shipping if you want.
HOW MUCH?
I bought the camera for $448 with an additional $35 for estimated tax (because apparently, if you are shipping to some parts of the US, you have to pay tax). So everything came to $483 and at an exchange rate of N360, the amount in naira would have come to N173,880 but Amazon used N318 as my exchange rate! What! I was and still am so shocked to have gotten an exchange rate so cheap. I guess God really wanted me to have the camera, having saved up for so long. I finally paid N153,594.
WHAT DID THE PACKAGE COME WITH?
The package came with
The body
A 15-60mm lens
Rechargeable Battery (NP-FW50)
AC Charger (AC-UB10)
Lens cap
Shoulder strap
Micro USB cable; and
Some pamphlets/instructional materials.
CAN YOU TURN THE DISPLAY?
Oh yes, the display screen can tilt all the way up. And what this means is that you can see yourself while taking a picture or recording a video. Cool stuff right?
DOES IT SHOOT 4K AND WHAT ARE THE VIDEO FEATURES?
No this does not shoot 4k video but what it does is shoot XAVCS and supports HD (1920x1080) which means higher dynamic range, resulting in better manipulation of your video in post-production, as opposed to other codecs like MP4. Other video features include
Image stabilization
ISO range between 100-25600
Continuous autofocus
Auto-ISO, which makes transitions between light and dark scenes creamy smooth.
Flip-up 3" LCD screen
Shutter Speed Range1/4000. Read up on other features here (they're quite a lot).
REASONS WHY I LOVE THE SONY A5100
- It's small and stylish.
- High-quality photos.
- Selfie-ready.
- Wifi photo sharing (you can immediately transfer your pictures and videos to your phone).
- Interchangeable lens facility.
- Great video quality.
- Vlog friendly.
- Continuous auto-focus.
- Image Stabilization.
CONS
- It does not have an audio input. This means I can not plug in a microphone while recording.
- Not the best Battery life.
- I'm sure I can go on and on about this camera but I'm just gonna stop here so this post does not get super long.
- Now it's time to hear from you. What camera/lens do you currently use? what's the one thing you look for in a camera? do you own a Sony A5100? If yes, what do you love the most about it?
- Please answer guys. I really want to know.
PS
I bought the brown case separately on Aliexpress and it was delivered directly to me here in Nigeria.
