You all know once there's a long public holiday in Nigeria, i'm bolting out of Lagos as you can see from my trip to Ghana and another trip to Benin Republic. Thankfully my friends feel the same way. So when the topic of travelling to Togo came up, I welcomed it with Jesus joy. And so we started planning, putting money together, booking hotel, booking transportation and figuring out places to visit. On my next post, I will give you a cost breakdown of the trip but this post is about 9 touristy things to do in Togo.
VISIT CASCADE DE KPIME
Cascade de Kpime is a waterfall located in Kpalime, Togo. And Kpalime is a 2 hours drive from Lome, where we stayed. We got a Kpalime local as our cab driver and he automatically doubled as our tour guide. Cascade de kpime is one of the three waterfalls to visit in Kpalime and my dearests, it was beautiful. I generally find waterfalls so beautiful and intriguing so if you're like me, you'll definitely love this place.
This is a bigger waterfall also located in Kpalime, Togo. You have to do a 10 minutes drive through a narrow bad road from the gate where you pay and another 10 minutes hike to the waterfall itself. The hike was a welcomed idea because I was already gaining weight from the plenty food (carbs) I was consuming. This was a much bigger waterfall and mehn, it will leave you in absolute awe.
Château Vial is a chateau in the hills to the north of Kpalimé. It was built by the French in the early 1940s and it use to house past presidents. Unfortunately, the place is a shadow of itself. The hallways are lined with cobwebs and most rooms smelled like toilet. But it still is a great place for pictures!
LOME CATHEDRAL
Well, this visit was absolutely random but highkey worth it. Our cab had a flat tire and we had to stop to fix it. Fortunately, the repair happened around where the Lome Cathedral is located. And yes, you guessed right, amazing pictures happened. Such a touristy site.
TAKE A STROLL ROUND MONUMENT DE L'INDEPENDANCE (INDEPENDENCE MONUMENT)
I said take a scroll round because when we got to the there, the gates were locked. Almost as if there don't allow people in. But you can get a good view/picture from the the gates.
CROSS OVER TO THE PALAIS DES CONGRESS FOR MORE PHOTOS
The Palais des Congres is just opposite the Indenpendence monument and the only touristy thing to do here is take beautiful pictures.
GO TO THE BEACH
We visited the Marcelo Beach which is about 5 minutes drive from Hotel Sarakawa where we lodged and it was so clean and beautiful. You also won't be harassed to pay any gate fee. It free entry for all. Let the pictures do more talking.
TAKE A CITY STROLL
We had one full day to experience the city and it was well worth it. The peace, quiet and serenity is amazing. No one is honking indiscriminately, bikers are very orderly on the street, everyone obeying traffic light and just generally being nice.
SEE THE MOUNTAINS
Behold the beauty and awesomeness of God through the lining of mountains on your drive up north. They are so beautiful and surrounded by cloud. At some point on our drive/hike up the mountain, we were breathing in cloud. Pure, clean cloud. I felt so close to God. It was like heaven on earth.
